“Growth is attained through an exchange of the old for the new, of the good for the better“
Haanel- The Master Key, Part 15
Haanel has been very interesting for me to read this week. I feel it seems to flow. It also seems to be the perfect timing for the new year. He really brought the first verse of “Auld Lang Syne” to mind as I read this chapter. If we cling to what we have, how can we possibly grow and move towards something “more”. Our ability to get to where we are going is contingent upon our ability to take what need from the past in order to learn and apply it going forward. How good we are at doing this, letting go of the rest, determines how far we move forward and grow. Difficulties and obstacles are put in our paths until we can take what we need from it in order to grow. I need to embrace what I am learning from the past and put my focus to where I am going.
The Franklin Makeover is definitely going to be a helpful tool to get me there. You know how when you want a red car, there are red cars everywhere? It is because that’s where the focus is, on the red car. So imagine now, that we take 13 different amazing traits, like courage, kindness or persistence to name a few. Now, for a solid week, we focus on just finding a specific trait everywhere we go, like at home, at work, or at the grocery store. How great will we feel when we are seeing amazing traits rather than what we are bombarded with on social media, in the news or people’s general negativity? When we feel great, our minds are looking at the positive and our growth can springboard into action! I have the ability to become a whole new person just by having a more positive outlook and being able to recognize what I have in me.
“I can be what I will to be!”
Hi Nicole. I’m straying out of my list but like to see what my Polo buddies are writing. Love your post, learn from your past and let go of what you don’t need. I’m certainly learning from this. Regarding your comments on red cars… for a chuckle this is the Reticular Activating System at work! Olivary Nucleus in the brain stem! There… now something else you can let go of! See you on Polo and Zoom, Lets make 2021 awesome so you can sail more.
Thanks for stopping by and dropping that nugget:)
Nicole, good for you for becoming a whole new person by having a more positive outlook. From your blog rover friend John.
The Franklin Makeover is a favorite of mine too! Happy focusing on positive traits! 🙂
Absolutely true Nicole. Even until now, I still think and look for kindness, self-confidence, and courage just to name a few that is happening without really thinking about it. As we are taught, I was effortlessly noticing those things because I thought of them at least 7 days straight and some of them more times. Thanicoles for sharing this article. I appreciate it very much. Your new friend Elena Perez
Thank you so much, Elena!
